Ten Manchester United players called up for England duty Six Manchester United players have been called up to the England senior side for friendlies against Chile and Germany next week while four youngsters have been called up to the Under-21s for their Euro 2015 qualifiers against San Marino and Finland. Smalling, Jones, Cleverley, Carrick, Rooney and Welbeck have all been called up by Roy Hodgson and Zaha, Powell, Lingard and Keane have got the call from Gareth Southgate. Given his injury problems, Welbeck may drop out of the squad and there are also fitness concerns about Carrick and Cleverley, both of whom have been sidelined this month with injuries. Rooney will lead the line in the friendlies as his fine form continues and hopefully Hodgson doesn’t use Smalling as a right-back. It will be good to see Zaha get some competitive game time and Powell has been in blistering form for Wigan so far this season, so certainly deserves to start for the Under-21s but Southgate has so far left him out of some of the matchday squads entirely.
