Lille's Nolan Roux scores twice to beat Monaco and move up to second Nolan Roux scored twice as Lille beat Monaco 2-0 on Sunday night to leapfrog their opponents into second place in the French league. Roux scored from close range in the 27th minute before finishing off a counter attack with 18 minutes remaining. Lille kept a seventh straight clean sheet in Ligue 1 and are two points behind Paris Saint-Germain, while Monaco lost their second successive match, following their 1-0 defeat at Reims in the third round of the League Cup. "It's a great result," the Lille captain Rio Mavuba said. "After two rounds we were not even thinking about being placed between Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco." The Monaco playmaker João Moutinho created the first chance after five minutes with a drive from the edge of the penalty area that was punched away by the Lille goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama. The hosts then capitalised on a corner to open the scoring when the Lille centre-back Marko Basa outjumped the Monaco defence to win a header that Roux flicked home. The Lille defender Simon Kjaer nearly put his team in trouble with a weak back pass in the 36th minute but Enyeama came off his line to beat the Monaco winger Yannick Ferreira Carrasco to the ball and clear the danger. Radamel Falcao pounced on the loose ball but the Monaco striker could only shoot over the bar despite a gaping net. Roux nearly added a second goal on the stroke of half-time but the Monaco goalkeeper Danijel Subasic palmed away the Lille striker's cross-shot. The Monaco coach, Claudio Ranieri, added more firepower to his ranks, replacing Carrasco with the forward Emmanuel Rivière at half-time, as they went in search of an equaliser. "We had a poor first half," Rivière said. "Then we had chances to rally. Unfortunately their keeper made great saves." Rivière collected a pass from James Rodríguez and was through on goal in the 67th minute, only to be denied by Enyeama. The Lille goalkeeper was again called into action in the 71st minute, stopping a powerful strike from Falcao. A few seconds later Salomon Kalou punished Monaco. Kalou released Mavuba down the left wing and the Lille captain's low cross was turned in by Roux from close range. Enyeama showed his pedigree in stoppage time with a double save, first parrying an angled strike from Falcao and then reacting quickly to prevent Rivière from converting the rebound.
