Nigeria cruise to U17 WC Final Nigeria beat Sweden 3-0 in Dubai this evening to reach Friday’s final of the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup in the UAE. Nigeria took a 1-0 lead into the break through Taiwo Awoniyi before a late second half blitz put the result beyond doubt. However, this time there would be no dramatic rally from Nigeria against Sweden after coming back twice in their earlier Group F meeting that ended 3-3 on October 22. Sweden tried to intimidate Nigeria in the opening 15 minutes but the three-time champions kept shape. The Swedes also tested Dele Alampasu in the 2nd minute when Valmar Berisha's shot came off the side netting. Awoniyi asserted Nigeria's command of the game with the opening goal in the 21st minute after a great through ball from the outstanding Kelechi Iheanacho. Sweden also had a difficult time trying to contain captain Musa Muhammed's rampaging runs on the right wing through the opening half. Just after the restart, Chidera Ezeh could not believe his misfortune when his header came off the upright after some good work from Samuel Okon. Sweden then produced pockets of resistance but Nigeria remained composed socking everything the Scandinavians’ threw at them. Nigeria then turned on the style in a two-minute spell of the final 10 minutes of the match. Okon found space after a sweet layoff from Iheanacho blasts in Nigeria’s second goal in the 80th minute. A minute later, Ezeh volleyed in from close range to make it 3-0. Iheanacho almost added a brace in the 83rd minute but his effort hit the side netting.Nigeria face defending champions Mexico in Fridays final in Abu Dhabi. The match will be a repeat of the opening Group F match on October 19 that saw Nigeria obliterate Mexico 6-1. Meanwhile, Sweden will face Argentina for Bronze in the curtain-raiser on Friday.
