Tottenham 2 Hull 2 (aet, 8-7 on pens): Kane saves sorry Spurs after Tigers pay penalty in dramatic shootout. Andre Villas-Boas had called for the atmosphere at White Hart Lane to improve, and his club's supporters responded. What his players' excuse was for large periods, however, is anyone's guess. Tottenham eventually knocked Hull City out of the Capital One Cup by winning 8-7 on penalties after 120 minutes of an absorbing tie at White Hart Lane but, for the second time in three days against Steve Bruce's side, they made incredibly hard work of it. Spurs needed a 107th minute equaliser from 20-year-old substitute Harry Kane, a player who has spent time on loan at Norwich and Leicester in the past 12 months, to take this tie to penalties. But then Tottenham, four-time winners of this competition, made a very basic error.
