Hernandez: De Gea is the best in the world. Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has compared goalkeeper David De Gea to United legend Edwin van der Sar, describing the young Spaniard as the best goalkeeper in the world. United’s number one made some great saves against Stoke City at Old Trafford on Saturday and have proven that his development at the club is so much better from the goalkeeper that was continuously slated by the press. Chicharito, who scored the winner, earning United all three points paid tribute to his friend and team-mate suggesting that he was now on par with United’s 2008 UEFA Champions League final star, Edin van der Sar. The Mexican striker said: “He was wonderful. Like I always say, we are a team and there are no heroes, but in some games there are players who make the difference and David was the one on Saturday. “He’s a wonderful goalkeeper, for me he’s probably the best one in the world. People don’t like to say that but, for me, he probably is. David and Edwin van der Sar are two of the best goalkeepers I have trained with – wonderful. Same level, same style and David is improving day by day.” David Moyes told his players after the 3-2 win on Saturday that De Gea was one of the main reasons for the success. He even rushed from his goal at one point to make a crucial tackle. Hernandez concluded by saying what Moyes said to them after the match: “That’s what the gaffer said to us and we agreed that it was because of him we got the three points. He made two or three saves after the goals and he was just fantastic.” It really makes me confident to see a young goalkeeper with the confidence of De Gea. After signing him in the summer of 2011, and him being picked on by the press for making simple mistakes, it have given him the confidence and determination to prove them all wrong. It is because of their column inches that De Gea is the player he is today. It does annoy me when De Gea got slated for a slight mistake, but Joe Hart, who seems to be the master of gaffes right now, is till the golden boy, despite making his errors. But the long and tall of it is, De Gea is a Manchester United player, our players will always be subject to tough media scrutiny and I would not have it any other way.
