Man Utd’s Wayne Rooney: Robin van Perise will recover from penalty miss Wayne Rooney insisted that Robin van Persie won’t be affected by his penalty miss after 10-man Manchester Unitedwere held to a goalless draw by Real Socieded. The Netherlands international squandered the chance to help the Red Devils take a big step towards the Champions Leagueknockout stage after Ashley Young had won a second-half penalty. 30-year-old Van Persie has endured a mixed start to the season due to a string of injuries, but United forward Rooney backed his Dutch team-mate to bounce back from the hiccup at Estadio Anoeta. “Of course [everyone misses from time to time]. Most forwards in the world miss penalties. That won’t affect him, I’m sure,” Rooney is quoted as saying in theDaily Express. “We’re disappointed we didn’t get the three points as we had the best chances. Overall, however, we can see the positives. We got a clean sheet and we’re still top of the group.” United manager David Moyesadmitted the Red Devils had wasted a “big opportunity” on Tuesday night. “We had enough chances to win it, especially in the second half when we controlled most of it,” Moyes told ITV1. “But for one or two moments we were the team on top. “This was a game we should have won tonight – it was there for us to take the points and get ourselves in a really strong position. “We’ve not done it but we’re capable of doing it in the other games as well and at the moment we’re still top of the group and in a good position. But we should have take three points today. “When you get games like this, you need to take your chances and your opportunities. “We missed a big opportunity to take three points tonight, but we’re still in a good strong position.”
