Gunman opens fire in Los Angeles airport killing one person and causing multiple injuries. A GUNMAN opened fire in Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) killing one person and injuring multiple people today. Terminal Three of LAX was evacuated around 9.20am local time and officials said a US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was killed by the suspect. The suspect used a high-powered rifle in the attack and was engaged in gunfire by Los Angeles Airport Police before he was taken into custody. Aerial footage of the airport showed emergency services vehichles and police cars surround a terminal soon after the incident started. Los Angeles Airport Police chief Patrick Gannon said: "A large amount of chaos took place. We believe at this point there was a lone shooter and he was the only person armed in this incident." Airport spokeswoman Katherine Alvarado said: "The general public is being held back at law enforcement bock. Other than arriving flights, flight operations have been temporary held." Television images showed two people being taken away in wheelchairs by firefighters in the aftermath of the shooting. A law enforcement source told CBSLA.com that the suspect entered Terminal Three of LAX wearing a military style uniform before opening fire. The source claims that the gunman was targetting staff of the airport and that the attack took place after the airport security checks. Witness Brian Keech said he heard "about a dozen gunshots" from inside the security gate at Terminal 3. While passenger Robert Perez said security agents had come through the terminal shouting a man had a gun. He said: "I heard popping and everybody dropped to the ground." Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) confirmed on Twitterthat they are currently assisting law enforcement officers after an incident at LAX. Aerial footage taken from helicopters in the area showed passengers fleeing the area while police surrounded the terminal. A live stream of the scenes outside the airport also showed emergency responders setting up what appeared to be a triage area outside an airport terminal. LAX said on their Twitter profile that 'ground stop' is in effect, meaning there are no planes allowed in or out of the airport. President Barack Obama has been briefed on the incident and White House officials are in touch with law enforcement officials on the ground.
